3) Point-source pollutants in surface water and groundwater are usually found in a plume that has the highest concentrations of the pollutant nearest the source (such as the end of a pipe or an underground injection system) and diminishing concentrations farther away from the source. The various types of point-source pollutants found in waters are as varied as the types of business, industry, agricultural, and urban sources that produce them. If the facility or operator does not handle, store and disposed of the raw materials and wastes properly, these pollutants could end up in the water supply. This may occur through discharges at the end of a pipe to surface water, discharges on the ground that move through the ground with infiltrating rainwater, or direct discharges beneath the ground surface. Nonpoint-source pollution occurs as water moves across the land or through the ground and picks up natural and human-made pollutants, which can then be deposited in lakes, rivers, wetlands, coastal waters, and even groundwater. The water that carries nonpoint-source pollution may originate from natural processes such as rainfall or snowmelt, or from human activities such as crop irrigation or lawn maintenance.

Nonpoint-source pollution is usually found spread out throughout a large area. It is often difficult to trace the exact origin of these pollutants because they result from a wide variety of human activities on the land as well as natural characteristics of the soil, climate, and topography. The most common nonpoint-source pollutants are sediment, nutrients, microorganisms and toxics. Sediment can degrade water quality by contaminating drinking water supplies or silting in spawning grounds for fish and other aquatic species. Nutrients, microorganisms, and other toxic substances can dangerous to human health and aquatic life.

This silt-laden runoff from a residential area contains not only soil and clay particles from nearby construction, but also is likely to contain small amounts of lawn chemicals, oil, grease, gasoline, and even residues from recent highway de-icing. These are all examples of pollutants released from nonpoint sources.

Chemicals:Industrial and agricultural work involves the use of many different chemicals that can run-off into water and pollute it.These are poisonous to aquaticlife and could also affects humans and birds because as we eat fish, if they are infected, in some way affects our health and our body. Some examples of these chemicals could be metals, solvents and petrol from industrial activities and pesticides from agriculture.

Microbiological:This is a natural form of water pollution caused by microorganisms such as bacterias, viruses and protozoas. The consequences are diseas that could affect fishes, humans and land animals.

Suspended Matter: These is causes because of suspended particles of pollutants that couldn t disolved on water on water. These could harm aquatic life that live in the floor of laked and rivers.

Nutrients: some wastewater and fertilizers contain high levels of nutrients that encourages the growth of different water plants like algaes. These is a problem beacause if there s so many plants they might use ol the oxygen available and not letting suffiient for fishes.

Ground water pollution:These kind of pollution is often caused beacuse of the pesticides of the soil and could provoque huge problems to humans as some use it as a source of drinking water.

Oxygen-depleting: This is origined because of the excess of biodegradable material in water. As fishes feed on biodegradable material when there is too much of it, the number of microorganisms increase and they use all the oxygen available developing like this which is called oxygen depletion. When oxygen levels in the water are depleted, relatively harmless aerobic microorganisms die and anaerobic microorganisms begin to thrive. Some anaero bic microorganisms are harmful to people, animals and the environment, as they produce harmful toxins.

Surfaces water pollution: Surfaces waters are the natural water resources of Earth such as rivers, oceans, lagoons and seas.These waters can become polluted in a number of ways giving like this place to the surfaces water pollution.

5) what can do to help. You can prevent water pollution of nearby rivers and lakes as well as groundwater and drinking water by following some simple guidelines in your everyday life.

•Conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. This helps prevent water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment.

•Be careful about what you throw down your sink or toilet. Don’t throw paints, oils or other forms of litter down the drain.

•Try to use environmentally household products, such as washing powder, household cleaning agents and toiletries.

•Take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilisers. This will prevent runoffs of the material into nearby water sources.

•By having more plants in your garden you are preventing fertiliser, pesticides and contaminated water from running off into nearby water sources.

•Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans. Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin.

Microbiological pollution
Microbiological pollution it the pollution that cause by microorganisms. Most of them are not dangerous but they still make the water not clean. But there are some of the organism like bacteria, viruses can lead to a serious diseases that can lead to death. So that’s why some of the countries don’t have clean water to drink and lead to sickness. Real Life The faecal microbiological pollution was investigated in the Upper Great Lakes Connecting Channels (zones of the St. Marys River in Sault Ste. Marie, the St. Clair River in Samia and the Detroit River in Windsor (Ontario)) Water samples from these rivers and various sources of faecal pollution were analyzed for the indicator organism recommended by Health and Welfare Canada – Escherichia coli. Local improvements can be achieved by manipulating bacteria transport in rivers – preventing influx of contaminated waters to the areas used for water-based recreation.

Chemical pollution
Many Industrial work has to use many chemicals that can leak and get into water and pollute the water. Metals from industrial pollute the rivers and lakes. And because of that the animals that live in the water are become endangered. Petroleum is a different type of chemical by oil spills. Oil spills have a localized effect on wildlife, but can spread out for many miles. This oil can cause the death of many fish. Real Life The Yangtze River leaks most of the concern in China In January, water supplies in the southern region of Guangxi became contaminated with cadmium from a mining company. People were warned not to drink water from rivers in affected areas. There was panic buying of bottled water in some areas in Jiangsu after residents noticed a foul smell coming from the tap water Shanghai’s drinking water supply mainly comes from the Yangtze River.

An environment official has said that the city was ready to shut down water supplies from the Yangtze should the need arise. (I want also want to add that I have read a book called “La Apelacion” of John Grishman that talked the same of the chemical pollution. When a company from the south of Mississippi that destarched toxic waste in the water system of the city, prompting the impact of hundreds of cases of cancer. This is one of millions of consequence from the chemical pollution )

Suspended Matter
This pollution are caused because of when the pollutants get into the water and it didn’t mix with the water molecules. And all of these particles will form fine silt on the bottom of the water. Then, it will harm the animals that live in the water by taking all the nutrients and effect their habitat. Real Life Raritan and Lower New York Bays using dissolved and particulate elemental concentrations The concentrations of 22 elements also were measured in the suspended matter of Raritan and Lower New York Bays and brackish water sources. Statistical differences among the geographical regions were detected in the relationships of Ti, Ni, Co, As, and U with Fe, with particulate As being an especially strong geochemical indicator of Raritan River particles.

Nutrients poluttion
Nutrients are the things that plants need for growing and developing.Also, most of them are found in a waste water. These can cause excess weed and algae growth if there are large concentrations in water. Drinking water can be contaminated. The algae use up all the oxygen in the water and leave nothing to the surrounding marine life and this can damage other organisms that live in the water. Real Life Nutrients pollution in Mexico

One prominent example of the process is the so-called dead zone that occurs annually in the Gulf of Mexico. The dead zone is caused by nitrogen carried to the Gulf from the Mississippi River. The Mississippi drains much of the land in the Midwestern United States, an area known for its farming operations and agriculture. In the Gulf of Mexico, the extra nitrogen causes blooms of algae, which die and deplete the oxygen in the water. Fish and shellfish that can’t escape the zone are killed.

OXYGEN-DEPLETING SUBSTANCES.
Oxygen depletion in a pond is the result of demand exceeding supply. Aquatic animals, plants, and decaying organic matter consume oxygen. Aquatic plants are primary producers of oxygen. Plants produce oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis is dependent upon light. Because of the effect of sunlight on photosynthesis, the amount of oxygen in pond water fluctuates daily. Oxygen levels are usually highest at midday and lowest just before sunrise. Fish kills usually occur when more oxygen is consumed during the night hours than is produced during daylight hours. Warm water does not contain as much oxygen as cold water. Thus, during warm weather months, mismanagement of ponds by overstocking, overfeeding, overfertilization, pollution from barns and feedlots, or chemical treatment of aquatic weeds can result in oxygen depletion and fish kills.

Water Pollution

Water is a necessity to life on earth. All organisms contain it, some drink it, and others inhabit it. Plants and animals require water that is moderately pure, and they cannot survive if their water is affluent with toxic chemicals and/or harmful microorganisms. If severe, water pollution can kill large numbers of fish, birds, and other animals, in some cases killing all members of a species in an affected area. Water pollution is not only hazardous to water-bond animals it also poses as threat to humans as well.

The majority of water pollution occurs when people overload the water environment with wastes. It’s defined as contamination of streams, lakes, underground water, bays or oceans by substances harmful to living things. Such things as oil spills, boat fumes, and dumping of trash into the oceans, lakes, and rivers are just a few of the major contributors to water pollution. Throughout the past century water pollution has become a very real problem and solution must be found.

First of all, Water pollution presents problems to humans in a few ways. Water pollution makes streams, lakes, and coastal waters unpleasant to look at, to smell, and to swim in, as well as preventing us from drinking it without filtration. Fish and shellfish harvested from polluted waters may be unsafe to eat. People who ingest polluted water can become ill and if they’re exposed for a long time, may develop cancers, or have children with birth defects.

There are two types of water pollution; point source and non-point source. Point sources of pollution occur when harmful substances are put directly into a body of water (such as an oil spill). A non-point source is when pollutants enter the water indirectly through environmental changes (like when fertilizer is carried into a stream by rain).

The major water pollutants are chemical, biological, and physical materials that lessen the water quality. These pollutants can be separated into seven
different classes: Petroleum products, pesticides and herbicides, heavy metals, hazardous materials, excess organic matter, sediment, and finally thermal pollution.

The first category is petroleum products. Petroleum products include oil and chemicals from oil are used for fuel, lubrication, plastics manufacturing, and many other purposes. The petroleum products get into water by accidental spills from ships, tanker trucks, and leaky underground storage tanks. Many petroleum products are poisonous if ingested by animals and spilled oil damages the feathers of birds and the fur of animals, often causing numerous deaths among these birds, furred animals, as well as fish.

The second category that pollutants can be classified as is pesticides and herbicides. These include chemicals used to kill unwanted animals and plants. An example of this may be something used to keep certain bugs off of fruits or vegetables. These pollutants may be carried into streams by rainwater. If the chemicals in these herbicides and pesticides are not biodegradable they can remain dangerous for a long period of time. When an animal eats a plant that has been treated with certain non-biodegradable chemicals, the chemicals are absorbed into their tissues or the organs. When other animals feed on a contaminated animal, the chemicals are passed up to them. As it goes up through the food chain, the chemical becomes more harmful, so animals at the top of the food chains may suffer cancers, reproductive problems, and death. This can be a very serious problem for many species of animals.

The herbicides and pesticides found in some polluted waters don’t simple pose a problem to animals; they can also be harmful to humans. More than 14 million Americans drink water contaminated by pesticides, and the EPA estimates that ten percent of wells contain pesticides. These Nitrates can cause a lethal form of anemia called blue baby syndrome in infants. Also there are many other humans that have allergies to these chemicals, and can cause health problems if enough of the contaminated water is digested.

Other chemicals that are a problem in the pollution of water are heavy metals. Heavy metals, such as copper, lead, mercury, and selenium, get into the water from industries, automobile exhaust, mines, and natural soil. Heavy metals also become more harmful as they follow the food chain. When they reach high levels in the body, they can be immediately poisonous, or can result in long-term health problems. They can sometimes cause diarrhea and, over time, liver and kidney damage. Children exposed to lead in water can suffer mental retardation. Fish that have been exposed to mercury can be extremely poisonous to humans if they eat the fish.

The fourth classification that is known to pollute waters is hazardous materials. Included in this class are chemical wastes that are toxic, reactive, corrosive, or ignitable. If not treated or stored properly, they can pollute water supplies. Such as in other categories once the hazardous wastes reach one part of the food chain they can be passed on to the animals that depend on them for food.

The fifth leading cause of water pollution is excess organic matter. Some examples of excess organic matter are fertilizers and other nutrients used to promote plant growth on farms and in gardens that may fine their way into water. At first the nutrients will help the plants and algae in the water grow, but when they die and settle underwater, microorganisms decompose them, while decomposing them the microorganisms take in oxygen that is dissolved in the water. The oxygen levels in the water may drop so low that fish and other oxygen-dependent animals in the water suffocate, and die, this happens mostly in the Midwest and other such places where there are vast amounts of farm land.

Yet another principal cause of the pollution of water is sediment. Sediment is soil particles carried to a stream bed, lake, or ocean, if in large amounts, can also be a pollutant. Soil erosion can damage a stream or lake by adding too much nutrient matter. Sedimentation can also cover stream bed gravel where many fish lay their eggs. Therefore, this can greatly decrease the population of fish in future generations. This is one of the many reasons that soil erosion is trying to be prevented today.

The final cause of water pollution, which is often overlooked, is known as Thermal water pollution. Thermal pollution takes place when water is taken from rivers, lakes, or the ocean to be used in factories and power plants. This water is usually returned to the source much warmer than when it was taken. Even a small temperature change in a body of water can drive away the fish and other species that were usually inhabited that particular region, and in conjunction attract other species in place of them. This develops unwanted ecosystems in areas where they should not be. Thermal pollution can speed up the biological processes in plants and animals and/or lower the oxygen level in the water. Fish and other wildlife near the discharge source, may die.

So as you can see, water pollution is a very serious problem it is responsible for dramatic decreases of fish and wildlife populations in our, rivers, lakes, and oceans. Water pollutants should also be held accountable for many cases of food poisoning, especially experience in seafood. In order to solve this problem we need to learn about ways for disposing harmful household wastes so they don’t end up in sewage treatment plants or landfills. In our yards, we should determine whether or not we need to add nutrients before fertilizers are applied, and look for alternatives where fertilizers may run off into surface waters. We need to preserve existing trees and plant new trees and shrubs to help prevent soil erosion. Around the house we should we need to keep litter, pet waste, leaves, and grass clippings out of gutters and storm drains, and buy as many heavily packaged foods, certain boxes, cartons, bottles, etc that are made with polluting dyes.

On a more widespread note, we must be much more careful about the types of pesticides we use, how we transport oil and other harmful materials, and work as hard as we can to prevent soil erosion and excess organic matter. If everyone works together to prevent water pollution this problem can be decreased drastically, if not eliminated. We all depend on water as a part of everyday life, we simply need to make sure that we as humans don’t take this for granted, and take every step possible to keep the waters on this Earth as clean as possible.

There are more things affect earth bad and make environment polluted like wastes, plastics, smokes and much more make earth and environment polluted and difficulty. Pollution is one of thing like this Pollution make environment difficult there are different types of pollutions like Air Pollution , Land Pollution , Noise Pollution , Water Pollution , Light Pollution and Soil Pollution these all have separate effects to human body and earth with environment .

Definition of Pollution The pollution has different types of definition and meanings in different cones and different stages in science definition of pollution is The contamination of air, water, or soil by substances that are harmful to living organisms. Pollution can occur naturally, for example through volcanic eruptions, or as the result of human activities, such as the spilling of oil or disposal of industrial waste.

Water Pollution Water is most important one for earth and human livings from the beginning of earth and world in past the water was pure and clean not pollutes but now as we know the water became shortage and there are none water area we know some part of the world needed drinking water they have no water for drink and their daily using.

In this situation the water we have balance it going as pollutes and not can use there are different ways to became polluted and none useless water here I want to speak about water pollutions causes of pollutions effect of pollution and the way to keep earth and environment from pollution and the effects happened on earth , environment and human body . here are more sources for different pollution but the source of water pollution are factories , industrials , chemicals , soaps from washing car , wastes from hotels restaurants , wastes from mining mills and the wasted waters from lodges and wastes of the human livings all makes water polluted and then water happen pollution.

Causes of Water Pollution Different types of water have different way to become pollutes the water of sea become polluted by Oils from ships , Oil from spinning and Dumping of litter in the sea can cause huge problems. Litter items such as 6-pack ring ackaging can get caught in marine animals and may result in death. And the water of rivers and likes become polluted by Domestic households, industrial ,Factories , hotels , and the waste water comes from area the human lives and agricultural practices produce wastewater . and the Air pollution and the pipes going under earth became the reasons for polluting of earth and environment with water and the global warming is the main problem for water pollution because An increase in water temperature can result in the death of many Livings on water and disrupt many marine habitats.

For example, a rise in water temperatures causes coral bleaching of reefs around the world. This is when the coral expels the microorganisms of which it is dependent on. This can result in great damage to coral reefs and subsequently, all the marine life that depends on it. And there are more like Radioactive waste , atmospheric deposition , and Eutrophication. Effect of Water Pollution The polluted water effects for human body, earth and environment with different types of effects as the reasons of polluting and the area of polluting. he water from sea become polluted by the factories and industrials they avoid this polluted and used waste water to ocean and sea and the oils from ships , the oils from oil spinning’s and this effect on the livings that live on ocean and it affect humans and peoples who use the livings of oceans.

The polluted water by chemicals it become the reason for more deaths of animals birds and fishes who use to drink that water, and the more water that human uses it become polluted and it reason for diseases In order the sea food is harm full and none useless for human because of the pollution . nd the polluted water on river , likes , and wells become the reason for Air Pollution and it affect all things who lives on that area and it made More problems to environment and earth with the livings in the area. And the polluted water effect different types problems in different livings sometimes it become the reason for death of animals if they use the polluted water as we know the livings in lakes dead with the using of polluted water but the same water if use human once he may be not death but it effect more problems and diseases in human body . hen we have to keep earth and environment from polluted and waste water .

Preventing Of Water Pollution When we think to prevent against water pollution or clean our water in first we have to do against water shortage. Because there is no more water in earth for the future age then first we have to prevent the water shortage then after we have to try to clean the present and polluted water. o prevent from polluted water first we have to ensure all persons on personal mind I never pollute any water because more peoples avoid plastics , covers , wastes from home , waste from shops , waste from hotels all see the place any water area to avoid wastes like Rivers and Lakes then if it is a moving river the all wastes stop any one place and it go damage from water and after it effect in water then slowly the water became Polluting and when it become polluted the water became waste and none useless and it effect on Air then there happen Air pollution and it affect the all who use that water in any area of river while it go so we have to keep by person to keep water from polluting. The second one is we avoid the using of chemicals soaps washing powder and other chemicals we use in ourselves this chemicals effect water and it become water pollution.

Avoid dispose of toxic products, such as paints, solvents, and polishes, in the proper area. Don’t pour them down your drain. Better yet, avoid toxic products altogether and use environmentally friendly products instead. Conclusion We have to keep water from all problems and pollutions or it may effect in our future life and our livings with more diseases and more problems for human body because the polluted water have the strength to kill a live because polluting of water happen with more chemicals and other things effect more problems than chemicals like oils and paints is the reason to make water polluted so we have keep it clean or it may affect in all livings on earth.

Water Pollution

More people die from dirty water and poor sanitation in Africa, than acts of violence , including war(“Why is Clean Water so important?”). Children are especially targeted for disease, because their immune system is smaller, and they are younger (“Why Water?” ). Africa has many poor countries, and many people are dying from diseases in water. Every day, people have to walk over five miles to get a bucket of water for the family they are in. Most of the time, the only water people can find is dirty. Dirty water causes children to develop diseases every year. In fact, over eighty percent of disease is caused by unclean water (“Drop in the Bucket”). Many organizations are desperately working to give third-world countries the water that people need. The organizations want to build a well for every village in Africa, so there is no more disease breaking out, and people want to reduce the death toll of 2,000 a day, to a much lower amount(“Water Aid”).

In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year just walking for water. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely to make them sick (“Why Water?”). There are many ways one can help Africa reduce their pollution, especially in water. One way that takes the least amount of effort, but makes a big difference, is to donate to an organization. There are so many of them that are serving Africa, and the more donations, the better. People want to end poverty right? Another method of impact is to never waste water. If one cannot finish water, give it to a plant, or save it for later.

But never throw it away. The last method of impact is try to reduce the pollution in communities around you. If the world has too much pollution, America’s water will end up like Africa’s, and our population will reduce and reduce, and at some point, the world might even end. To sum it up, the pollution in Africa is on the rise, and people need help to get clean water. First world countries like America have no idea how much people waste clean water, and how lucky those people are to have it. So in the future, don’t waste water, one will never know who doesn’t have it.

Water Pollution

Clean water is extremely essential for a healthy living. It is life’s most important basic necessity while dirty water is one of the deadliest killers. UN has estimated that 10 people die every minute from contaminated water. The World Health Organization estimates that 80% of all sickness and disease in developing countries is due to unsafe water. As water pollution is one of the most widespread problems and it has deadly effects, I chose this topic. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans and groundwater). Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. The project includes the Global perspective, National perspective, possible scenarios and my personal views about this issue.

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

Water pollution today happens all over the world. Many major cities and countries form a part of it. The top five polluting countries are China, USA, Russia, India and Japan. The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns. Some 6,000 children die every day from disease associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene – equivalent to 20 aircrafts crashing every day.

According to UN statistics every day 2 million tons of human wastes are disposed of in water bodies. In developing countries, 70% of industrial wastes are dumped untreated into waters where they pollute the usable water supply.

The sources of water pollution throughout the world are,

· Fertilizers: Synthetic fertilizers can easily leech into lakes or rivers with the help of rainwater or excessive watering leading to water pollution. Fertilizers being drained into the rivers or lakes cause enrichment in nutrients and give rise to growth of algae. Projected increases in fertilizer use for food production and inn waste water effluents over the next 30 years suggest there will be 15% global increase in nitrogen flow into rivers.

· Chemical industries: They release harmful chemicals into river and water bodies. Today these wastes need to be treated before releasing but not much attention is paid to this and so, waste is released into water without treating. Sewage contains a high amount of pathogens and when it reacts with water causing oxygen to be removed. So removal of oxygen from water life becomes impossible in water.

· Oil Spills: Africa has highest amount of polluted water, South Africa to be specific is most polluted country. The government has taken control over the pollution by putting measures and treating wastes before disposals. Africa being a developing continent, cannot afford the cost of treating all the waste and in some industries they dispose the waste directly in water bodies. People there don’t focus on harvesting the rainwater like in China or India.

In Europe, the most polluted coasts are of Lithuania and Estonia, 70% of all surface water is polluted due to industrial activities. Poland has high rate of water pollution which causes shortage of water for industrial use. Baltic Sea is considered to be most polluted in the world.

In Asia most polluted waters are to be found in China. 70% of China’s water is heavily polluted. This is due to untreated sewages and industrial influence. About two million people suffer from serious disease caused by unsafe water.

It is well known fact that US tap water is safest in the world, generally safe from microbes and chemicals. However, this is true for some states only, while some states are still getting contaminated water. Many Americans still drink tap water without even knowing it. Congress in America passed The Water Act in 1974 that could set national limits on certain contaminants in tap water. In 2009 the EPA warned that threats to drinking water have increased.

Australia has a low rate of water pollution which is declining in near future. Many water projects are going in Australia and people are enthusiastically helping to solve the problem of unsafe drinking water. Main source of pollution at Sydney’s beach is affluent discharge from north head, Bodi and Malabar waste water treatment plants. Natural small creeks and drainage lines have been replaced with networks of canals and pipes. Waste water treatment plants collect waste water and remove solids and then treat waste water before realizing it into the environment.

Starting the treatment of water today can help us save large numbers of lives. Thus, it forms a major crisis in the world. Time has come to solve it.

NATIONAL PERSPECTIVE-

I am an Indian, to be more specific from the state of Gujarat and a city named Rajkot. I’m very privileged to live in a country which is water adequate. It is adequate which means it is enough for need, but unfortunately not enough for greed. Its a fact the water will be the world’s most serious issue in the coming years. Someone rightly said that the third world war will be over water, considering India Fights have already started on small scale over water. At present the following states of India are involved in legal battles over the following rivers. For example the states Kerala, Tamil nadu, Pondicherry and Karnataka are fighting over the river Kaveri and Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are fighting over river Krishna.

India is amongst the top water polluters in the world. Since several decades, industrial wastes like chemicals, oils and other poisonous things are discharged into the rivers in large quantities. In India, rivers have a great religious importance and they are considered holy. People travel miles to bathe in these rivers. Due to these pollutions, the water which was considered ‘Amrita’ (Immortal Drink) has now certainly become poison. Till some extent bathing in the river does cause water pollution but there are other several religious rituals like ‘Visarjan’ and flowing of Asthiya. Not just the religious customs but even the sewage is drained into these rivers. People even wash their clothes in the river. It has been found that expired medicines and used injections are thrown into the rivers. Out of the 1400 km of the river Yamuna, 600 km from Panipat to Etawa has been officially declared to be dead (this means this stretch of the river has 0% dissolved oxygen meaning that neither can water support any type of life nor is it suitable for any kind of use).

Experts have found out through surveys that the level of coliform (harmful bacteria) in water to be a dangerous 50 in 100ml in drinking water. For bathing water, it is an approximate of 500 per 100ml. More than 500 means that the water is not even fit for bathing and it has been found that Delhi’s level of coliform is between 9,000,000 and 10,000,000. This is the condition of the capital city; it can be assumed that in other parts of the country the conditions are worse. Even though the Indian government has introduced many acts outlawing water pollution it is unable to enforce it strongly and people are still dumping wastes into water. Industrial wastes are also dumped into the ground by injecting them deep inside, this pollutes the underground freshwater.

In India water pollution in itself is a major issue, but it is also impacting on the health of the people. The industrially polluted water is treated by ordinary techniques, which still are not able to filter out the heavy metals such as lead and cadmium. This water is used in agricultural practices, and the produced crops for example the fruits and vegetables contain these poisonous substances in small quantities which can cause health problems like:

Lead: affects the IQ level of kids.

Mercury: affects people’s brains. It also affects pregnant women and maybe passed on to their children through blood and breast feeding. This may also lead to mutation.

I all personally face a lot many problems due to water pollution. As I live in Rajkot, a city which lies within the watershed expansion of Aji riverbasin and it is a network of 19 natural drainage courses, loally known as ‘Voklas’. Unfortunately these voklas are being used for sewage disposals resulting in pollution of Aji –river in downsream of Aji dam, which collects the water from Aji and Nyari river, therefore both the dams are fully polluted. An analysis of different water bodies in downstream of Aji dam indicates the most of water bodies within city limit are contaminated. Pollution of underground water due to electro-plating industries and sari-printing industries is also observed.

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS :

Today, water has become a major world issue. It affects the world, it means it affects each of us human beings. The concentration of water pollution is expected to increase in future, as with the growing trend today, water has become a major world issue. It affects the world; it means it affects each of us human beings. The concentration of water pollution is expected to increase in future, as there is going to advancement in industries, agriculture and may other contributing factors of water pollution. The problems are going to multiply in the future. Starting from the effects on the mankind, 75% of the world’s human population will have fresh water shortages, some of a very serious nature.. This will include Western developed countries. (Already in 2008, 1/3rd of humanity was struggling daily for fresh water for drinking, cooking and washing).

Presently the health is already affected badly, if all the water gets polluted the scenario will worsen. Water is a major issue but it can be even more problematic in the future as the quality of the water is deteriorating. Of fresh water that is available for use, a high degree of pollution of all types is likely (organic, chemical and energetic).

If this continues to happen than many problems can occur like diseases spread due to bad quality of water will increase and medical facility will need to be provided. If bad water reaches farms than whole of the produce will be ruined and people will fall sick and economic problems will be faced by the farmers and the vegetable market will have chances of collapsing. Clean water will not be available for drinking, the level of pollution will have risen so much that it would be very expensive to get and only a few people will be able to afford it. Again due to this the people falling ill will increase.

And filtering water may become expensive as the water would be more polluted than before and so coast of processing and filtering of water will increase by a large number. Salination of the coastal regions form rising seas, with salt seeping into ground waters, again it will add to government’s costs and so people will have to pay more for drinking water than today.

Collapse of artesian supplies from overuse and insufficient run back underground, the ground water is therefore depleting. If states today are fighting for water today people might fight for water and small issue about water may start a fight that might be difficult to stop. Water pollution

Water pollution is the act of contaminating of water bodies in our areas which would include pollution on areas like rivers, oceans and lakes. This can be caused by human activity and it can be a great threat to the living animals and plants found in this water areas. There are so many cause and characteristics of water pollution where the primary source of water pollution are categorized in to two base d on the origin or the source. One is point-source pollution where water is contaminated through a discrete like waste water, outfall from a factory, leaking under ground tanks.

The second one is non-point source pollution where its pollution does not originate from the source. (West, 2006). Water resource issue The water resource issue that we are going to have in our case is water usage. Water usage is the various ways in which water is used in our homes. Water has become a unique source where it is flexible in use and in my cases there is no other alternative. The origin of water usage comes as a result of water shortage in many parts of the world. It even created a water day which is highly respected and people learn on water issues. Management and sustainable plans

Action items-my plans are on how people can learn on water usage. It is in mind that water is insufficient and we should use it wisely in order to provide to the needy ones. I will come up with a program within my society that will help people learn more about water usage. The people in the community will be attending this program and make sure that they implement the measures of water usage in the community. Order of actions items-The programs that I will come up with involves most of our sisters and mothers who in research have shown that they are the greatest user of water.

The first item that we are going to tackle in our program is trying and finds the repercussions of water shortage. When water is inadequate then it gives room for diseases to affect people in the community. After the research is over then I will come up with education program that will help the community at large. I will then present the outcomes of the water usage to the people and finally call the society to attend. Action steps-The program that I am going to support will highly involve youths because they are energetic and they can move with a very high speed.

There are many programs or activities going on in the society each and every day for example people meet to discuss political issues of a certain society or the problems that their people are under going like in my case there are community development fund day. I will borrow the permission one day to air out the issues of water usage. Through the meeting I will request the water usage issue to be discussed in the following or the coming meeting. Time line-The program will run for about three moths for it to be completed effectively and the matter being dealt with maximally.

The first month I will conduct my research and try to know the areas that are being affected by water shortage so that I put more weight on it. The second month is when I will come up with the repercussions of water shortage and finally I will venture in to a group that usually attends meeting s so that I can explain my concerns. At first people can oppose the view because they cannot see the significance of minimizing water that is available. There are other issues that might results to the ware usage issue would include how people would irrigation, and domestic use.

This is because people use a lot of water in irrigation instead of implementing ways that will use little water. Also domestic use is another area that we cannot forget that people actually leave water running at the taps. Through the significance loss of water, it will result in to huge amount of water being lost throughout the year. In my plan there exist some challenges which would hider me from achieving my goal. The timeframe with which I am required to attend the meeting is minimal and people may not get my point clearly. Money is also a challenge because people who will help you to carry out the research will need their pay.

There is also the issue of getting a chance to speak to the community because in the meeting, some members may find it unnecessary for me to intervene the proceedings. My plan would affect the community in various ways like jobs, recourses and lifestyle. My plan leads to construction of dams where people in the society would benefit from being given jobs. The community will have increased its resources and make good use of available water. The lifestyle of many in the society changed because the people who did not get water were able to get a slight share of the ware with little money and be able to use it wisely (Gochman, 1997).

Conclusion It is advisable to use water in a good manner because water is scarce. Once a commodity becomes scarce then, it becomes very expensive to afford and the common people will not be able to coup with the situation. Water is essential for our health and vital for plant as well as animal. It is a chemical raw material for certain products to be finished like paper an ink. For communities that use every drop of water wisely ended up having more resources indirect, for instance when you use water for irrigation wisely then you will be able to cultivate more areas and improve your end results.It is worth to note that water nowadays have become a gold which need to be handled with care. Water Pollution

One of the major issues that are of great concern in my town is how toxic heavy metals have been deposited into flowing waters. Toxic heavy metals in water, is as a result of untreated pollute deposited into lakes, streams, rivers, by manufacturing industries which in turn is consumed by domestic users. The effluent from such industry is deposited into water bodies or could be washed away from the top soils by flood into drainages which is emptied into such water bodies. The presence of these undesirable elements in foods (fish) is due to the ingestion of water containing industrial and domestic influent.

Most of these heavy metals are deposited in the liver of certain vertebrates and fatty tissues of fishes. The amount of each of these elements present in the fish depends on such variables as the amount present in the food chain, size and age of the fishes. Most of these heavy metals (which include Lead, Cadmium, Copper, Zinc e. t. c) are toxic and hazardous to man depending on their concentration in food. Conclusion From my findings, I will recommend that waste from these manufacturing Industries be treated properly, recycled and be properly disposed.

Water Pollution

Water pollution refers to the contamination of water sources with harmful materials such as sediments, organic wastes, minerals, thermal pollutants, nutrients, toxic chemicals as well as other hazardous compounds. Water pollution makes water not to be safe for cooking, drinking, farming and fishing (Sharma, 2009). 2. Where does this pollution come from? The primary sources of water pollution include agricultural, municipal and industrial wastes. The municipalities, industries and agricultural sectors increasingly discharge harmful compounds into water sources thus contributing to water pollution.

These toxic compounds end up in lakes and deprive aquatic organisms of the oxygen which is critical for their survival. Human activities such as mining also contribute to water pollution. Mineral elements such as chromium, copper, iron, nickel, platinum, tin and zinc are released into water sources during mining (Sharma, 2009). 3. What impacts can it have on wildlife and overall water quality? Since the organic wastes need oxygen for decomposition, the aquatic wildlife is endangered. The phytoplankton population which forms the primary sources of food for aquatic animals is greatly deprived of oxygen which they use in photosynthesis.

The decreased levels of phytoplankton will imply a reduced number of wildlife in water. Excessive amounts of elements released into water sources during mining such as platinum and chromium inhibit sunlight penetration that also reduces the photosynthetic capacity of phytoplankton. The important quality of water such as the allowance of light penetration is therefore reduced significantly with pollution (Sharma, 2009). 4. What impacts can it have on human health? Water pollution impacts human health by causing diseases such as bilharzias, cholera and dysentery because dirty water hosts the water pathogens causing these diseases.

The mineral elements deposited to water sources especially the heavy metals such mercury can have serious health impact among developing children. The cognitive development process is delayed with mercury poisoning. Other water pollutants such as chlorinated dioxins and furans are highly carcinogenic (Sharma, 2009). 5. What are ways to decrease the amount or impact? Water pollution can be reduced through encouraging individuals to be responsible while handling water and treating sewage.

Water pollution regulations such as common-law principles, federal and state statutes and administrative rules are some of the ways in which the impact of water pollution can be reduces. The offenders who go against the law should be prosecuted and this will reduce the incidences of water pollution (Sharma, 2009).
