Air cabin crew members make sure that airline passengers have a comfortable, safe and pleasant flight. Air cabin crew member must be polite, well-spoken and have a positive approach.

Main duties & responsibilities

The job of a pilot comes with heavy responsibility and personal commitment. There is more to the role than just flying the plane, which has to be done safely and economically, and tasks can typically include: ensuring all information on the route, ensuring all safety systems are working carrying out pre-flight checks on the navigation and operating systems communicating with air traffic control before take-off.

Tasks may vary slightly depending on whether it is a short or long-haul flight and the size of the team you are working in. However, they typically include: Attending a pre-flight briefing, during which air cabin crew are assigned their working positions for the upcoming flight. Crew are also informed of flight details, the schedule and if there are passengers with any special requirements, such as diabetic passengers, passengers in wheelchairs or the number of infants on board; carrying out pre-flight duties, including checking the safety equipment, ensuring the aircraft is clean and tidy, ensuring that information in the seat pockets is up to date and that all meals and stock are on board; welcoming passengers on board and directing them to their seats; informing passengers of the aircraft safety procedures and ensuring that all hand luggage is securely stored away; checking all passenger seat belts and galleys are secure prior to take-off; making announcements on behalf of the pilot and answering passenger questions during the flight; serving meals and refreshments to passengers;

Entry requirements:

Qualifications

You would usually start your career as a first officer after gaining at least an Airline Transport Pilot’s License. This is first awarded as a part time ATL, which allows you to fly as a first officer. When you have completed enough flying hours you can apply for a full ATPL and qualify as an airline captain. You must be at least 21 years old to have a full ATPL. You will need to pass a thorough medical check. You should be physically fit, and have good hearing, eyesight and color-normal vision. Several universities offer courses in air transport and operations with pilot training options. Some of these allow you to study up to frozen ATPL level. In most cases, you will have to pay for the flight training modules yourself.

A degree or HND/foundation degree is not required for entry into work as a cabin crew member. Instead, most airlines require a good secondary education, with some asking for grade C or above in English and Maths.

Skills

To become an airline pilot, you will need to have:
the ability to follow spoken instructions from air traffic control the ability to give clear, confident instructions to crew members and passengers good teamwork skills
the ability to work with technology
good hand-to-eye coordination
the ability to read maps and 3D displays
good written communication skills
The ability to remain calm, and take charge in an emergency. flexibility in
working unsocial hours on any day of the year;

To become a cabin crew member, you will need to have:

communication skills;
confidence in dealing with a range of people;
the ability to work as a team member (different teams may be worked with every day) and be supportive of colleagues;
competence in handling difficult situations and the ability to remain calm under pressure and in emergency situations;
the ability to be tactful and diplomatic but also assertive when necessary;
commercial awareness and sales skills;
flexibility in working unsocial hours on any day of the year;
the ability to work quickly and efficiently, often to tight time constraints;
numeracy skills for handling cash, including foreign currency;
The ability to work in a confined space.

Personal qualities

Pilots need to display a very special blend of personal characteristics: maturity, commitment, a technical aptitude and interest, determination to succeed, self-motivation and willingness to take on responsibility. The qualities of a good cabin crew are approachability, warm personality, sincerity, honesty, having a humble disposition, friendliness, discipline, stable emotion, having good listening skills, rule oriented, being organised, having a cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding, adaptability, assertiveness, dedication to details and having a good sense of humour. Some airlines look for air cabin crew who can speak a second language and this will be essential if you want to be based in an overseas location.

Experience

Pilots must be at least 21 years old and have full ATPL and have a certain amount of flying hours to start flying. They will need to pass a thorough medical check. To become a cabin crew memebr, you would be given basic training lasting between four and six weeks. This covers:
security, customs and immigration regulations;
safety and emergency procedures;
first aid;
customer relations and passenger care;
currency exchange;
food preparation and service, and galley management;
Personal grooming (appearance).
After this you would normally have a trial period of three to six months. During this time your performance would be checked by trainers or senior crew members. You would have to pass regular exams to test your knowledge of safety and emergency procedures, and to make sure you meet official first aid requirements.

Other factors, e.g. location, CRB disclosures, driving licence It is recommended that before candidates you begin any training you take the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Class One Medical. It is a requirement that all airline pilots pass this medical, and if they do not, they will not be able to complete the training to achieve the ATPL. Criminal record checks can play a key role in your personnel security regime, both at the pre-employment stage and as a tool in personnel security aftercare. The Department for Transport) requires a basic criminal record disclosure for certain roles. This shows unspent convictions only. Candidates also must be able to swim for 25m unaccompanied.

Cabin Crew candidates must go through a CRB check. To be successful candidates must not have a criminal record and in some cases not even a caution. Candidates also must be able to swim for 25m unaccompanied. Depending on what airline you work for, you must hold a driving license e.g. Flybe require candidates to have a valid driving licence.

Progression:

Opportunities for promotion & progression
Newly qualified pilots start with an airline as a copilot, where they will be second in command on the aircraft. The captain has the overall responsibility for the flight and safety of the passengers and crew but
shares tasks with the copilot. With enough hours and experience copilots will be able to progress to the role as a captain. With experience air cabin crew members could get promoted to pursers. As the purser, you would ensure that all crew within your cabin deliver the highest level of customer service. You would also give feedback on their performance and try to boost sales of duty-free items.

Training

Pilots training to reach the frozen ATPL level could take between nine and 36 months, depending on which entry route they follow. It may take less time if you already have a Private Pilot’s License, Commercial Pilot’s License or experience in the armed forces.

Training will include:

flight principles
navigation and communications
meteorology
operational procedures
aviation law
use of flight simulators and flying real aircraft.
During the training period, you would learn basic flying skills and usually work towards frozen ATPL. You must complete a minimum 195 hours’ flying time to achieve this.

There isn’t a strict education required for becoming an air hostess (besides a GCSE level in English and Maths for most companies), but taking cabin crew training will increase your chance of being hired. Some courses will provide you with training which is similar to the cabin crew training you would receive from an airline company. This gives you a benefit over those who didn’t have some relevant training, which will likely make you stand out of the crowd.

Further & higher education

Pilots would normally start work as a co-pilot (first officer) alongside a training captain on short-haul flights. This would give them maximum experience of take offs and landings. A full ATPL is normally awarded after 1500 flying hours, with at least 500 of these as a co-pilot. Eventually you could become a fully qualified captain.

A range of further training courses are also available, which introduce candidates to skills and recruitment processes. Such courses often have useful links to major recruiters and can be an advantage, but do not guarantee entry to the profession.
Factors to consider: E.g. seasonality, temporary, fixed-term contracts.

Most seasons start in October and go through May-July so you missed this season. Contracts vary from fixed and temporary. If you have a temporary contract, airlines could go on to terminate your contract or offer you a permanent contract. Contracts vary from fixed and temporary. If you have a temporary contract, they could go on to terminate your contract or offer you a permanent contract.

Working hours

Your working hours would be linked to flight destinations and could include nights, weekends and public holidays. Working hours are strictly regulated for safety reasons. The amount of time you spend away from home would vary. On UK and European routes, you may be able to return home every evening. Flights further away would often involve overnight stays or longer. If so, your employer would provide you with accommodation.

You would work shifts that include weekends, nights and public holidays. The amount of time you would spend away from home would vary depending on the flight routes that you work on. You would be expected to be neat and smart, and your company would provide you with a uniform. The work can be physically demanding, as you would spend a lot of time on your feet and work in small spaces like the kitchen galley. Bad weather could make it uncomfortable in the aircraft.

Level of pay

A pilot’s level of pay may vary from £21,000 to £75,000 depending on experience and level of flying hours. Starting salaries can be between £12,000 and £14,000 a year. With experience, this rises to between £15,000 and £21,000 a year. Senior crew can earn up to £25,000 a year. Overtime and flight allowances can increase salaries.

Perks

As well as getting to fly to either domestic or international destinations as part of their job, airplane pilots get big discounts on personal air travel. Many also enjoy discounts on personal car rentals and hotel rooms through their employers. These benefits can be for life and often extend to other family members. Pilots also enjoy free hotel accommodations when they have to stay away from home overnight. Cabin crew members are provided with free accommodation. You can get cheaper flights for friends and family depending on the airline. The major perk to being cabin crew. For the lucky few that get long haul flights then they will normally stopover in the country you are going too. The airlines will normally put you up in a 4 or 5 star hotel plus whilst you are there you are free to do as you wish. As well as all this you also get paid for it.

Travel and Tourism

Individual businesses must work in partnership with other organisations in order to be successful. Tourism is a very competitive and complex sector and many companies develop links with other businesses as a way of maximising profits. If for example Thomas cook didn’t work with other hotels, insurance companies, company picks up on arrival, Thomas cook wouldn’t make any profits, as customers wouldn’t want to book a holiday with a company who don’t take out insurance, which if an accident happened they would have thousands to pay with no compensation.

Also if customers were to book with a company who didn’t book with certain hotels, you could end up anywhere without any information about it. Whereas if Thomas cook have interrelationships with hotels they are more likely to be safer and nicer hotels, meaning customers trust Thomas cook knowing the hotel is good one. This increases profit due to more repeat purchases. E. g. a hotel may work with local tourism attractions and events to offer its guests discount admission. Tour operators use airlines and hotels when assembling their holidays, which are sold through travel agents.

Independencies and interrelationships Being interdependent means relying on others. We all rely on others for help and support throughout our lives. The success of tour operators and the number of holidays they sell depends very much on how well travel agents are promoting the products and services of the tour operator and how successful they are at persuading customers to purchase particular holidays. If the travel agent is not selling holidays, then neither is the tour operator. This illustrates the interdependency of these two sectors.

Another example is visitor attractions experiencing a downturn in the number of visitors due to problems with transport systems and accessibility. Interrelationships: The different components of the travel and tourism sector cannot work in isolation. They each rely on others for success, e. g. a good flight on time, and going to a good hotel. Tour operators work together with travel agents and airlines. Nowadays the chain of distribution often links directly between the suppliers i. e. accommodation provider and airline to the customer, missing out the travel agent or tour operator.

This is becoming more common as people get more confident about booking online. Some tour operators like Portland sell direct to customers and miss out the travel agent. Interdependencies: Some relationships are often optional for example during a one of promotion, whereas interdependencies are where one of the organisations is dependent on the other for its business. For example Ibiza airport and the tourism industry in Ibiza is interdependent on the airlines which fly into the island in order for them to bring passengers who then spend their money, of the airport had no airlines then there wouldn’t be a need for an airport.

Another example could be where a tourist office like Chester is advertising an attraction. The attraction relies heavily on the tourist office to promote and advertise their attraction, which will therefore lead to more customers purchasing tickets etc to go to the attraction e. g. chester zoo. Examples of interrelations Hotels e. g. the Hilton hotels, airlines etc easy jetinternet tour operator/travel agent e. g. Expedia customer The places where people stay are the hotel. If hotels didn’t have interrelations with airlines, they wouldn’t have any customers.

Hotels rely on customers traveling to the destination where the hotel is through the airlines which for example could be easy jet. The airlines then rely on internet purchases and travel agents to receive bookings with their airline. If bookings are not taken online or through travel agents the airlines won’t be receiving passengers for the flights, and the hotel will not be receiving customers to stay at their hotel. All of these people rely on the main interrelation which is customers.

Without customers not one of these parts of the interrelation would be in business, therefore there will be no revenue increase, and they won’t be able to break-even. Alton towers is one of the most popular theme parks in the UK. It has its own themed hotels. In those hotels they advertise the Alton towers theme and water park everywhere they possibly can. They advertise through having posters and pictures on walls around the hotel, selling gifted items relating to the theme park in the hotel shops, aving information desks at the reception lobby too provide information about the theme parks and offer leaflets and park maps to help customers around the parks. It also works vice-versa, where the Alton towers theme parks advertise and promote their hotels before entering the theme/water parks and also around the parks on billboards and posters etc. this brings awareness to the customers and will hopefully lead them to choose to stay at one of their hotels. Airlines and hotels also advertise each other. Airlines like Thompson and Thomas cook have their own broaches where they sell and promote different hotels.

This is how they interrelate with each other. If it wasn’t for Thomson and Thomas cook to advertise certain hotels in brochures and over the internet, the hotels wouldn’t receive as many customers. This also works the other way around where hotels advertise airlines; however it is not as wide spread. Airlines can be advertised on certain hotel websites or even on posters/pictures around the hotels when you arrive. Travel agents will advertise and sell attractions to customers on the high street. They may organise trips for a weekend or just day trips.

There linked to tour operators, they may package a holiday around a specific attraction. For example Thomas Cook works directly with Disney to sell attraction tickets. They will organise how the tourists get to and from to the attraction. They will work together to increase revenue for both organisations. Tourism development and promotion, for example national holidays work with Chester zoo to take people on trips there when trying to promote an area, they will want to include the attractions of the area so they will work together with attraction managers to advertise both areas and attractions.

Accommodation and attractions have to work together. They could provide accommodation right on the actual attraction ground to increase tourism for example Disney land and the Disney hotel. They can carry out the theme of the attraction onto the accommodation. No matter where people go in the world they will want to be reassured that they are safe and their belongings are safe therefore they may want insurance if they are on holiday visiting the attraction. Attraction.

Attractions are also linked to trade associations and regulatory bodies for example some attractions like the pleasure beach blackpool are part of the association of leading visitor attractions and they work with TICs and tourist boards to attract people to an area or country. Hotels airlines (could be Thomas cook etc tour operator- Thomas cook travel agent- Thomas cook (or could miss out travel agent and sell direct to customer customer The places where people stay are the hotel.

If hotels didn’t have interrelations with airlines, they wouldn’t have any customers. Hotels rely on customers traveling to the destination where the hotel is through the airlines which for example could be Thomas Cook. The tour operator is who you buy the holiday from which is vital for customers, because if Thomas cook were not a tour operator no customers would buy from them. A travel agent is then who you buy the holiday through, travel agents speak to customers in person in a customer environment on high streets etc.

If bookings are not taken through travel agents the airlines won’t be receiving passengers for the flights, and the hotel will not be receiving customers to stay at their hotel. If the travel agent is missed out the customers will buy straight from the company Thomas Cook online on the internet. All of these people rely on the main interrelation which is customers. Without customers not one of these parts of the interrelation would be in business, therefore there will be no revenue increase, and they won’t be able to break-even.

There are many different theme parks that the family could visit there is an whole verity like flamingo lad, Alton towers, pleasure land, Thorpe park and much much more. The theme park that I am going to chose is pleasure beach Blackpool. The reason why I have chosen pleasure beach Blackpool is because there is rides there for everybody there are rids for children and adult also there is a beach close by that they could visit Access to information is so easy the actual pleasure beach website is really good there is information about everything rides food places prices etc. Because the family are going for a day visit they would not need accommodation Transport there are many different ways of getting to Blackpool however because they live in the UK they are UK residents they may be a chance that they drive to Blackpool or if they want to they can get the train instead. Accessibly there is all of that around the park like push chairs so that parents could push their children around there are many different perks like being told in advance they can sort out extra attraction so there is something there for everybody.

Customer service there is centres all around there is also some within the theme park and there is a big information centre at the entrance of the theme park where there is information about everything. Cost there are family tickets that would be available for the family to UK which would be a lot cheaper than the separate tickets £64 There is many activates they can do with blackpoll as well as the rides there are activities that they can do like they can go to shows which are all so cheap and gift shops etc. or they can go out on to the beach which is free of cost and they would not be paying for anything at all. Total cost

Travel £50
Food £50
Tickets £64

Travel and tourism

For this task I will script a welcome meeting for two destinations, which will be Disneyland Paris, and Manhattan in New York. Paris Hello everybody, and first of all I would like to thank you for attending the welcome meeting on the 1st July, here at the Disneyland Hotel! I will try not to keep you here long as I am sure you want to explore the park and the hotel on this hot summer’s day, so basically the reason I am having this welcome meeting is to tell you a bit about the hotel, but mainly about the area around the hotel, and of course Paris’ Magic Kingdom and the Walt Disney studios!

So first of all I would like to tell you about the entrance to the park, as guests of the Disneyland Hotel, you are able to watch the guests as they line up outside the imposing gates each morning and then stream into the park from underneath the hotel! This is always a nice thing to do, especially if you have kids with you, as we all know how they can get in the long cues. Now I would like to warn you about something, you will have to watch for the clocks which run backwards in the corridors as this may confuse some of you!

Characters roam the lobby and the hall ways throughout the day and a tip for all you kids – there is a small room on the third floor of the hotel from which they appear, starting at 7. 30am each morning – every thirty minutes. Additionally for the adults there is a chance for an excellent photo opportunity, just position yourself on the ‘bridge’. So children keep a look out for them! Also there is a swimming pool in this hotel for those smaller members of the family.

Next I would like talk about the weather, July in Paris is generally cool to pleasantly balmy, with average temperatures at around 66 degrees F. In -2- recent years, however, major heat waves have occasionally struck, particularly in late July, and temperatures have sometimes climbed to the 90’s. so my advice to all of you and particularly either Elderly or younger visitors and visitors with medical conditions should be alert to possible spikes in temperature, and take necessary precautions.

Although you rooms all do have air conditioning so feel free to come and cool up in your room, or use the hotels swimming pool. On the other hand however Paris is known for having unpredictable rain showers and despite the hot weather July Is one of the rainiest months of the year so expect some erratic thunderstorms and heavy showers so I would advise you Pack a reliable umbrella in case one of these surprises you during a stroll around the park or at a picnic or something similar to that.

Additionally another tip I have is to be prepare to wear both closed-toe and open-toe shoes particularly you elderly lot! As On hot days or excursions to the park you’ll appreciate the open-toed pair, but you’ll need a good, comfortable pair of walking shoes too, especially since visits to Disneyland Paris usually involves lots of strolling, and last thing I would advise wearing a hat with sun cream as well. Now I would like to tell you the many attractions, Parents and particularly women!

Have any of you brought 2 suitcases? Well if you have I am sure you will want to listen to this. If there is one thing you will never have a problem finding in Disneyland Paris, it will be its stores. Various themed and general stores are spread liberally throughout the park, selling Disney merchandise and general memorabilia. They carry everything from pencils to books, from Indiana Jones fedora hats to Cinderella costumes. The sky is basically the limit on what you can buy at Disneyland Paris.

You can buy glass/crystal trinkets and sword replicas in the central castle. So if you have come to Disneyland Paris with children, be prepared; cowboy hats and pistols -3- or knights’ swords seem to be essentials for boys; Cinderella costumes for girls. The main shopping area of Disneyland Paris is Main Street USA. The largest store at Walt Disney Studios Paris is Disney Studio 1, which you will see straight ahead after you enter the park. Disney Village has a large collection of retailers, including a Disney Store.

And while I’m on the topic of Parents, Does anyone here have young children? If so there is a scheme for toddlers or babies. On the rides there is a system here at Disney called the Baby Switch which is a great system for people with very young children. Essentially only one has to queue while the other waits with the baby and then is taken straight to the front of the line. Although it should be noted that if you are riding the Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster the Baby Switch process is slightly different.

Once the first adult has been on the ride, they collect a ticket at the exit. The second parent then has to queue through the Fast Pass entrance (although the ride attendants recommendation is merely to push your way to the front of the queue), which can take some time. For those of you of business, you will happy to know that there is some excellent conference rooms for you – ‘Disney’s hotel New York’, ‘Disney’s Newport bay club’ and there is also an IMAX Auditorium, so if you’ve Organised your convention at our resort or are visiting one.

Disney’s Hotel New York(r) Convention centre is integrated into the hotel and offers around 5000 square metres of multi-purpose facilities that can be configured for business meetings, lunches, gala dinners and shows for 12 to 2,200 people. This convention centre has a separate reception for conference attendees, a Business Centre, a welcome desk and a 600 square metres foyer for coffee breaks, receptions, etc. furthermore A Business Centre is available with IT -4- equipment, secretarial service, telecommunications, reprographics and printing facilities.
